Sunshine, Colorado, is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains above Boulder, Colorado. Our community is officially recognized as a census town and the Sunshine Fire Protection District (SFPD), with a rich history in mining dating back to the late 1800's when our population soared to over 3,000 residents. Our 130+ households became a Special District in 1969 with community-donated work and surplus equipment.
We are now funded by Boulder County property taxes, grants and personal donations, and we are still a fully volunteer district.

Welcome to Sunshine!
We welcome you to explore our website and learn more about the Sunshine Community and our Fire District. Here you can learn about how we manage fire protection for our community, how our District is organized and funded, and about our special community with its rich history in Colorado.
Fire Protection
Sunshine Fire Protection District has been protecting homes and residents for 54 years. We are a dedicated group of all-volunteer firefighters and administrators keeping Sunshine safe.
Governance
Tax dollars, grants and donations support the equipment and structures that are the basis of our fire district management. An all-volunteer board and others manage funding and budgets.
Community
It is the residents of the Sunshine Community that make it a magical place to live and love the mountains of Boulder. We are a close community rich in Colorado history.
